Daniel Goyone

Pianist and composer Daniel Goyone has been shaping a body of work that crosses musical boundaries since his first album, released in 1982.

Jazz is his starting point. Cuban and Brazilian music, followed by Indian traditions explored through his long collaboration with Trilok Gurtu, have enriched his musical language. His work also carries echoes of the French classical tradition.

His compositions combine a strong melodic sense with a rigorous exploration of modes and rhythmic cycles. Improvisation extends the writing, serving its movement and intentions rather than becoming an end in itself.

Teaching is an essential part of his work. Through his books and masterclasses, he has developed an approach to rhythm, modes and composition.

This openness is reflected in collaborations with artists and ensembles as varied as Claude Nougaro, David Linx, the Orchestre National de Jazz and the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux. His music has also found its way into film, theatre, circus and broadcast productions.
